COCKERMOUTH Titans Amateur Rugby League Club has received a welcome funding boost from homebuilder Lovell, currently building new homes at The Laureates.

The donation will go towards the day to day running costs of the local rugby league club, which has various junior and senior teams, with players ranging from under 11s to open age adults.

David Whitworth, coach for the open age team, is a bricklayer subcontractor, building new homes at The Laureates. Recognising that Lovell is a keen supporter of community projects, he approached senior quantity surveyor, Wendy Gibson, for support.

David said: “I have been on site at The Laureates since day one, in fact, I laid the foundations for the show homes here. Lovell is a considerate housebuilder and we’re so grateful for the support, it helps to keep club costs down.

“The Titans is a great community club going from strength to strength. The first team has just been set back up and the youth sides are thriving. It’s a busy time for the club, we’re in the middle of the season which runs from March to September. We always need funding to help with the running costs, such as kits, balls, pitch equipment, which is why we’re so appreciative of this funding boost.”

Wendy Gibson, senior quantity surveyor for Lovell, said: “Lovell has been building new homes for almost two years in Cockermouth and in that time we’ve welcomed many families to the area, some who may go on to become members of the club.

We are more than happy to show our support for the Titans.”

The Laureates is a collection of 217 new homes set among extensive landscaping and boasting outstanding views of the Lake District. Within walking distance of Cockermouth town centre, there are a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom properties ideally suited to buyers at every stage of life.

Among the new homes, Lovell is building 27 low cost properties specifically to help local people achieve home ownership in their home town. The homes, which are being offered at a 35% discount, have proven incredibly popular with 15 snapped up to date, six of those sales in the first four months of this year, and just three more available to buy this year.

In addition, Lovell is also able to offer Help to Buy on full price new homes at The Laureates, through which buyers can secure their own brand new home with as little as a 5% deposit and get a government-backed equity loan for 20% of the overall purchase price, interest-free for five years.
