MOVING UP THE LADDER WITH HELP TO BUY
27 January 2016
THEY say home is where the heart is, and that is certainly true for Mike Todhunter, his partner Mags Fenton and her son Connor.
The couple fell in love with The Laureates, Lovell’s exclusive luxury development in the historic market town of Cockermouth. And Mike says it will make the perfect family home for them, Connor and their new baby daughter, due on February 14 – Valentine’s Day.
“We were looking to buy a home together and as soon as we saw The Shadwell at The Laureates we realised it would be the perfect house for us,” he said.
Mags agreed that it was large and spacious, while still ‘lovely and cosy’, ideal for them and Connor, Mags’ 14-year-old son.
Mike, 44, added: “It’s our first home together. A brand new home for a brand new start as a family – and it feels like we couldn’t have chosen a better place.”
The Shadwell is one of 17 different types of properties on the development, situated in the heart of the Lake District, with prices starting at £175,950.
Mike and Mags bought their house using the government’s Help To Buy scheme and it is an ideal modern family home. The door of this double fronted property leads to a welcoming hallway off which is a spacious living room which stretches the length of the house. On the opposite side is an impressive kitchen/dining area, with double doors leading to the garden.
A large landing at the top of the stairs leads to all four bedrooms, including the elegant master bedroom with en-suite, and the family bathroom. There’s even a handy store cupboard too.
Mike revealed: “We loved the garden and the imposing porch at the front. It has four bedrooms which is ideal with a new baby coming along, plus there is an extra bedroom to use as a spare room or as an office.
“The size of the kitchen was perfect, as was the dining room and the garage, and when the houses are finished here they are going to build a play-park just around the corner!”
“The wide and welcoming hallway will be easily negotiable with a pram,” smiled Mags, 34, a palliative care nurse. “And when it got the seal of approval from my teenage son we were sold.”
Not only that, it is perfectly placed for Mike’s job as an on-call retained fire-fighter in Cockermouth, where he was born and bred: “I am on call all the time so I need to be near to work. The Laureates development was perfect.”
Clare Noakes, sales manager for Lovell North West, said: “The advantage of buying a new home is that purchasers can move straight in without worrying about undertaking any renovation work or DIY, which is ideal, not least when you’re going to happily have your hands full with a new baby.
“But The Laureates has still more to offer. The homes are surrounded by picture-perfect, rolling countryside and ancient woodland, while being close to the town of Cockermouth where there is lots to enjoy, so they have the best of both worlds. Truly perfect for families.”
She added: “The irresistible lifestyle on offer at The Laureates is sure to tempt many more homebuyers so we’d urge people to act quickly to secure their preferred home on the development.”
A choice of two to five-bedroom properties will ensure The Laureates meets the needs of a range of purchasers, from first time buyers to growing families. Each home has been thoughtfully designed to offer practical yet elegant living amid the most breath-taking British countryside.
And the government-back Help to Buy scheme is available to would-be purchasers which means you can secure your dream home with a deposit of just 5%.
A marketing suite together with three show homes are open daily from 10am to 5pm.
